How to make the most of January.
We’re all officially back in work mode, with the holidays feeling like a distant dream of overeating and board games. Yet I feel this time of the year offers a fantastic opportunity to take actionable steps towards your goals - we should all take advantage.
Before we dive in, I’m considering adding a new content format to refresh the newsletter. Maybe a recommended article, or a useful YouTube video? Click Reply to this email and let me know your thoughts 🙂
And if you need a new home for your million-dollar ideas, I’ve shared a super cute note-taking app at the end. Happy reading!
✍️ Be a pro 🥊
The middle of January is an important period - we’ve all just gotten back in “work mode“ and shaken off the cobwebs of the holidays. At the same time, we feel well-rested and refreshed, which unclogs our creativity pipes. Now we can mix the mental clarity of the holidays with the practical execution of work days to make some real change happen.
Obviously I’m not going to advertise morning routines and productivity systems - you know what you want to do and I respect that.
I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries about fighters like the flamboyant Floyd Mayweather, and I found myself impressed by athletes’ training regimes. They know what matters - being in the gym, improving their skills, thinking about the next fight. That’s it. Not the flashy cars, not the ticket sales or the fame. Just the fights.
As we reach the time to lace up our shoes and head to work, that’s the mentality I want to develop. Focus on the main thing, and keep doing it even when it’s hard. Make time for your goals, read the reports, sweat the details. Be a pro.
The rest will come by itself.

The authors are brilliant researchers who have both struggled with loneliness. The work offers both a personal and a scientific view of loneliness, which will not only make you feel like you are not alone in your challeneges, but will also give actionable tips to improve your social life.

Spotify has revolutionized how we listen to music, but it hasn’t been all Walking on Sunshine. The notoriously dodgy music industry has adapted to the new era of streaming in ways that can be detrimental to both artists and listeners.
Music journalist Liz Pelly has spent years investigating this space, and her book, made from many interviews with musicians, Spotify employees and insiders to reveal the new world of music, in which terms like “background music“ and “streambait“ are dictating the charts. If you are curious about music and the digital revolution, this book is for you!
